Industry made sure like was done with cigarettes that you do not find out about wood smoke harmful cancer chemicals.. No one told those dying in hospitals about cigarette smoke. No one told us about this smoke either. It has been covered up so as to sell stoves in a 1991 deal between Canada and Washington EPA. It is urgent that we find out what we need to know. EPA Certified Clean Smoke well imagine clean dioxin! What a scam!! If you take a moment and see the real chemicals in all wood smoke and look at the EPA Certified new so-called “EPA Certified clean smoke” stoves you will be convinced. . All wood smoke is a carcinogen and that EPA Smoke is also a dangerous chemical soup. Spoon-feeding the children daily doses of dioxin that is proven 400% increased in Certified EPA smoke is not right. Kids breathing smoke 22000 times a day is immoral. This can never be justified. Street incinerators must go! It is clear all smoke and that filtered light wood smoke really is a lethal formaldehyde and benzene smoke that has tiny soot particles that are cancerous that linger scaring the lungs and causing blood cells to transform. The smoke is causing critical harmful diseases. . This is extremely important to know. Please be aware and look at the studies. See how children are most vulnerable. We need to face the real truths about what this smoke is doing to our children and to us all! Urgent measures are needed to stop all wood smoke toxic pollution. I ask for your curiousity and for your will to see how you have been fooled. Please allow me to establish some information so you can prevent the tragic loss of your health as well as our children's health. Before we start we need to be of an open mind.

We must be willing to take off the dark shades of industry reteoric. We will get nowhere unless we are at least willing to examine the evidence. The evidence proves what is clear indication of high government incopetence. I ask only that you yourself look at the files that you do not just accept waht I say. You have to examine the proof and see the astonishing levels of mistrust and wrong doing. My eyes are deeply troubled from waht I see. I was once a person who trusted Health Canada and Environment canada. Sadly, Natural Resources Canada controls the show. At all costs to children rhey have betrayed us to a very bad industry, wood stove sales and export import American based industry. the names I withold at present due to legal issues.

The government has had a great deal to alllow what appears to be a case of negligence. The facts need to be brought forth. We will try to show you what you must know about EPA Wood Smoke Stoves, about all the ways in which we have been made victims of a wrong and misguided industry , about the vaccum of truth, the cover ups, the unqualified Certification, who is doing bad to the children, and who have been helped along by the Canadian Government and allowed to do this awful injustice.

I am hopeful we can move smoke in our neighbourhoods to the forefront. Since 2004 I have worked on this matter with Montreal. I have provided explosive evidence about what is a dangerous pollution indeed. The two thousand files I have made well known in Pointe claire, West Island and in Canada as well as USA , in Ministers offfices, with provincial and local elected politicians.

Clearly, Canadians have the right to know the real toxoliogical data in EPA Certified smoke. Canadians have a right to be able to see that this smoke like any wood smoke is a lethal carcinogen. What I wish to share is information many still refuse to see. I ask that we take a second look at what we have been told and witness fact.

As a mother who has witnessed cancer, please look at the evidence.The fantasy we have been fed by industry may be taking your child on a fast route to cancer and placing you and the children in our community at risk fro a whole host of illnesses.

Take this for example, in reference to dioxins and particulate matter, Cornel University and New England Journal of Medicine warn of exposure to air pollution. Given that Environment Canada Montreal Studies 1998-2004 prove wood smoke causes 95% of winter suburb air pollution we have a major problem with how we see smoke. We have a big lack of knowledge. This is because when industry saw stoves not selling in 1991 well our government with Washington and Illionois decided to let a few men in the stove business take over the whole show. Determined to sell stoves at any cost to our health they set up owing labs and doing all the writing about wood smoke. Like cigarett sales this is the same story. In 2009 we see medical studies, over 3000 that prove we have gotten all we know about smoke from the smoke stove industry. Our women and children are at the highest risk to wood smoke and the government still is saying buy EPA Stoves. this is negligence. Children are dying because of this negligence to tell Canada the truth. Less than one percent of emissions are even tested and let's admit the labs are loperated with formulas that are like a sixteenth century heart surgery.

Given wood smoke is chemical carcinogens, a mixture of millions of microscopic dioxin laced formaldehyde and particulate matter that causes 55% of Quebec Pollution and 95% of suburb winter pollutiion..one study, I quote:

"Twice as many women with breast cancer had high PAH [Polycyclic_aromatic_hydrocarbon, a byproduct of wood smoke] levels in their BREAST TUMORS compared with tissue of women without breast cancer."
"Our findings show where a woman lives in that city affected her exposure level and disease." [New England Journal of Medicine, 2007]

Sometimes we are conditioned to avoid what we urgently need to see. Children are the primary consideration. Clearly their safety should be the basis when making decisions now and in the future . What has happened however is industry has been first place, not the health of us all not the kids. Who has learned the truth about EPA or any wood smoke? Who knows about dioxin the most deadly emissions on the planet? Have you seen any reference to the fact that INtertec, the people who did Taser research stated yes, the very opposite of what we have been told. Emissions are far from reduced in these so called clean stoves, dioxin in EPA Smoke is proven increased 400%. What have we been told by Public Health ? Who has been getting paid to hide the real story of how all wood smoke will have lasting effect on children's future health? What we must see is how the Government of canada has actuallly encouraged. Let's be clear. Canada is allowing another industry to do what the stove industry is doing to us. We have all heard how the asbestos industry has been allowed to sell asbestos to the poorer nations. Millions will suffer here in Canada by the same type of political leadership gone wrong. In order to save the Canadian children and the women especiallly, I have to help you save your selves.

I ask only that you spend some time seeing how wrong this smoke is for the kids. I have witnessed cancer in my own child. Smoke in our neighbourhoods is a proven big cause of disease. It is irreversable once it is set inside our bodies. Approving smoke must be stoppped. It is killing the children. Wood smoke can and must be stopped. It appals me to see how this has been allowed to go on unabaitted for so long. We are looking into legal class action law suit. The Government has let this industry take away our right to know and to steal the breath of our children.

Each day life is being swallowed up by wood smoke in your lungs and inside our children's blood cells. There is much harm being done to the planet. In eight hours one stove emits the same contamination as 180000 km of a car. One gram of wood emits 157000 mg of carbon. There are over one hundred known cancer chemicals in wood smoke. Millions are ingested inside little bodies each day as they play. The Government of Canada and Quebec , our local and provincial governments has allowed this to happen.

We must stand up to harmful smoke. What has to change is the will to change. Not only the industry but us at the local level. We must rethink and see waht is in smoke. We have to tell others to stop creating deadly harm on our children. This is critical. Cancer causing emissions from wood burning are making our children sick and even yes, taking their last breath. Wood burning in Canada composes over 29% of total Green House gases. This we need to see.

In the mist of smoke screens is the School Board cover up. When I brought the suspicious evidence to authorities, well as whistle blower, my pension was at risk if I took action against the school board. I had to accept that punishment. In 2000, while without a voice, sick from six inches of classroom mould, well , I did get fired for reporting the children being at risk. The evidence of wrong doing and the cover up of deadly mould in the school where I worked as Chairperson in Hudson 1997 will be all told.

As well in Hudson, recycling and other environmet issues were changed. I did stop leaf burning with a law that has ben modeled across Quebec. I was active in helping advance the dangers at City Hall. Dr. Irwin as well as myself we were condemned for speaking up. Like smoke well we may have to go all the way to Supreme Court. There has to be change and I am determined to seek justice in Canada. Like the pesticide Hudson Supreme Court of Canada this wood smoke will be taken to the highest level. Children will not be forced to breathe smoke. Clear and final. NO!

In my own son's eyes, well given the smoke in Hudson perhaps I learned a little late. You can learn about this other smoke now. My son is well. He is one of the lucky ines to survive sarcoma, a dioxin benzene environment risk cancer that starts in childhood. It takes over twenty years to be seen. cancer can be stopped with prevention. I can only say that if you wish to live healthy and if you want your dear children to have the best chance to be healthy today and tomorrow, well please take the time to see and to change from dangerous unawareness to informed action and protection!

Sometimes the habitual roles we play are in fact very destructive. Society proves, one fact. WE prefer to not change and are often unwilling to take in new information. This has proven extremely harmful. Unfortunately what we have learned about wood smoke has been censored by a very I have often said , "The mass does not seek truth." We are after all creatures of habit. Smokers many of us were, and be assurred if you live where wood smoke can be detected you are a smoker of the most deadly smoke in existance. So, as we go forward, I hope we all learn what we urgently need to learn. The truth about clean burning EPA Certified Stoves that many parents have been misled to believe as "Safe". That would be nice but this will be the next issue we as a society will learn has been but a deadly hoax! How we can protect our children as well as ourselves from EPA Certified and all smoke if we have never been allowed to see the truth? As a parent and a citizen I was working hoping to get these stoves the so called 95% lower emission Certified Bush stoves too! I also trusted what the government said with the safety of EPA and the lies just like you. Well in 2009 the new budget is committing 250 million to tobacco farmers in Southern Ontario..just a glimpse of how trustworthy our leaders are ,,There are more dioxins in EPA and believe me there is no such thing as a non-harmful second hand wood smoke.

Like cigarettes when we were young this smoke today is a critical and very deadly serious threat to our health. Ever wonder why wood smoke is an issue we are never taught about? We need to prevent children from exposure to toxic carcinogenic wood smoke. The very base of society ensures the safety of kids. This second hand smoke is actually proven to be more harmful than cigarette smoke. There is no choice. Prevention of exposure, giving kids the right to breathe smoke free is the right thing to do for our kids.

Smoke is the antithesis of air. Smoke, wood burning, we have romanticized and somehow taken for granted, as harmless. Far from harmless, harmful smoke, produced from burning tree parts in 2008, is the world’s third highest source of pollution and this smoke is a real threat to our health and all life on the planet. This burning smoke emits billions of tons of emissions, carcinogenic chemicals, carbon, benzene, fumes, dioxin and hexacholorbenzene into the air that we breathe each day.

All smoke and critical to note is the fact that contrary to what we have been told, EPA certified smoke offers no emission decrease in home burning of wood. EPA Certified stoves, in independent research prove to emit even higher levels of cancer causing emissions, dioxins and deadly Agent Orange furans. There is no safe smoke.

Little is known about this second hand neighbourhood smoke. Yet, thousands of studies conclude that residential smoke is a major cause of all illness, heart disease, stroke, asthma, diabetes, all cancers, including breast cancer and even death. Smoke produced from residential wood burning costs 24% of the total green house gases in Canada each year. In Quebec , where emissions have grown 20% in the last five years, this smoke causes 55% of particulate matter, a deadly molecular soot pollution that enters deep into the lungs. And, all that smoke, people know very little about. People deserve and have the right to know. We think differently, we act more responsibly, when we know the facts.

Residential Wood Burning Smoke Pollution has become a primary cause of carbon emissions, benzene and dioxin, and is among the worse and the highest contributor of pollution in the world. Wood burning deforestation is not the way of the new earth that we see. We can change.

As a mother of a son who has seen the face of cancer first hand, I ask you to join us in this movement where we believe that the best treatment is prevention. Whether for cancer, lung disease, asthma, stroke and heart disease and Breast Cancer prevention from avoidable risks is crucial. We invite you help us voice the need and to fight for change so that citizens, parents, and children will not be made to suffer environmental cancer. Here is where asthma, coughs and lung infections, caused from breathing smoke will not get a place to start. We can prevent all the environmental cancer and diseases caused from breathing smoke-toxic neighbourhood dirty air. Is burning wood worth the cost? We Adopt Prevention as the Best Cure!

We together can and must reduce risks and prevent exposure to all smoke. Reducing risks is breathing smoke free.

We invite you to become informed about an unknown subject, this silent killer that is causing illness, great distress and suffering and especially endangering our children. Smoke is placing kids at very heightened risk. Smoke from chimneys is causing irreversible environmental damage and placing our health and the health of the unborn at heightened risk.

Vital to changing is the urgent need to address is the lack of science and lack of integrity in EPA Certified Stoves. Unless we awaken to the facts, as is stated in the critical review of EPA Integrity, May 22, 2008 in which, Senate House Leader, Waxman states that EPA decisions “are not based on Science nor regulations, but are adopted by the White House for political reasons” we will not see real change. We need to dissect the myth of this power industry and see that the truths about EPA Certified stoves. Independent tests (INTERTEC) conclude stove emissions show an increase of 400% dioxin in EPA chimney smoke. As with all emissions, studies conclude none, no emissions are reduced in home use of stoves. Emissions are reduced in lab testing only. The industry owns the labs! The industry certifies itself! People need to know the studies and reviews prove that testing is not based on scientific facts.

There is no reduction in concentration but what is to be made caution is the fact that Dioxin in smoke exposure is placing women at risk to develop Breast Cancer. Walking in smoke is like smoking 16 cigarettes in one half hour!

We must stop this smoke that is placing women at risk. Studies prove carcinogens from breathing this smoke accumulate in the blood cells and fatty tissue, causing changes, directly impacting and increasing risks for women to develop Breast Cancer. It is urgent. We must act.


Together we can and must reduce these avoidable risks and prevent exposure to all carcinogenic smoke. Reducing risks is breathing smoke free.

We acknowledge the respected government and institutional research that proves that wood smoke is more toxic than cigarette smoke. We extend a welcome to our institutions and government agencies. We expect and oblige our elected policy makers to adopt policy that is, the best and the safest policy, that is informed, and that is clearly the most forward thinking, sustainable health based, environmental policy.

Nothing less is acceptable. PREVENTION is the BEST CURE.

Health must be number one in policy.

We realize that, unfortunately, people have been kept in the dark about neighbourhood smoke.

Seeing that people are victims of not knowing much about this second hand smoke, we want to make a difference in getting the information out there. We welcome citizens, policy makers and the media to a place where people are respectively given access to the facts, where they can make informed decisions, become healthier citizens, live and breathe in health and enjoy the best quality of life. We ensure that life is given the best chance, so that people can live happier, longer and better, breather clean and safe air in their homes and neighbourhoods. People must not be forced to breathe neighbours’ toxic smoke in their own homes. People have the right to live smoke free. No one should be able to take your breath away.

We believe and do our best and will continue to see that the information is made easily available, so good willed citizens can act responsibly, stop polluting with smoke, and do what is right for our environment and our families. We must protect the air for future generations.


We invite all citizens from worldwide communities to learn, share in the dialogue, chat with each other, support, and participate, so that we informed and determined to change. We must take a new direction.

We know it is time for change and we believe that through willpower and awareness, citizens in communities will engage in change, and will help each other live more safely, in smoke free neighbourhoods. Climate change is upon us. We may not have a second chance.

Wood burning smoke is threat to our well-being and future generations. Witnessing the raging earth now struggling to combat climate change, the world food shortage, the hungry desolate people displaced, those before our eyes, who, by the millions, are falling victims to the ravishes of climate change, we too, may soon become one of them. We humans are the fragile. We are the meek and the humble. We must change. We ask each other to think about today and tomorrow’s children. They need us. What are we leaving for our grandchildren who shall inherit the air and the earth? We had a beautiful world handed to us what can we do to now give our children the same beautiful earth?
